Fenugreek Liquid Extract Tincture - Trigonella foenum-graecum 50ml

Fenugreek seed has been used to increase milk production since biblical times. The herb contains phyto-oestrogens, which are plant chemicals similar to the female hormone oestrogen. A key compound, diosgenin, has been shown experimentally to increase milk flow. This herb is used therefore to promote milk production and to help with breastfeeding problems.

Fenugreek also has a centuries-old folk reputation as a breast enlarger and there is good reason to believe that this herb really works. Fenugreek seeds contain a fair amount of diosgenin, a chemical compound that's often used to create semisynthetic forms of the female sex hormone oestrogen. While oestrogen has many effects on the body, two relate principally to breast enlargement. The hormone causes growth of breast cells and contributes to water retention. Plant oestrogen (phyto-oestrogen) from sources like fenugreek does not lead to uncomfortable breast fullness however. Fenugreek may also be useful for helping with the menopause and inhibited sexual desire in women.

Fenugreek leaves are among the better dietary sources of choline which can help prevent and treat Alzheimer's disease. In addition, they also contain beta-carotene, an anti-oxidant that might also help prevent or slow the progression of Alzheimer's.

Other uses of Fenugreek include treating constipation and diarrhoea. The seeds contain up to 50% fluid-absorbing mucilage, so they swell in the gut reliving diarrhoea, and help with constipation by softenting the stools (drink with plenty of water to help keep things moving along).

Mucilage also contains six compounds that help regulate blood sugar levels, so is useful for those with diabetes. Fenugreek also increases blood levels of HDL ("good") cholesterol while lowering total cholesterol, so it can help cardiovascular disease, a particular hazard for people with diabetes.
