Product 75/86
Valerian is best known as a herbal sleep aid. The sedative action is attributed largely to a group of chemicals in the plant called terpenes. Valerian can be made into a tea before bed to help promote sleepiness, however it doesn't have a particularly pleasant taste therefore a tincture is recommended.
Valerian also contains proven anti-arrhythmic compounds and was used for arrhythmias and palpitations in Roman times. It also has other heart benefits: it increases blood flow to the heart, improves the heart's pumping ability and lowers blood pressure.
Due to its anxiety-relieving tranquillizer/sedative properties, valerian also has a number of other uses. Herbalists recommend it for hives that are bought on by anxiety or stress and it may also be used for inflammatory bowel disease as it relieves spasms in smooth muscles in the intestine. Stress is also thought to be a contributing factor to IBD. Along with skullcap, valerian is also useful for helping the nervous tension and irritability of premenstrual syndrome.
100ml 1:3 Alcohol Volume 45%. Take 10 - 15 drops 2 x daily.
